Now that you saw the trailer, couple of questions:

How can your life be fantastic if your neighbors are not fantastic? I mean, something being fantastic basically means that it is perfect. If something disturbs this, it’s not fantastic.

Another thing, if Mr. Fox’s life is fantastic, why do they feel the need to also mention that his wife is fantastic? If his wife was not fantastic, would they even dare mention something about his fantastic life?

Last, but not least, he’s called Fantastic Mr. Fox right? Could he be fantastic without a fantastic life?

Conclusion: A trailer full of redundancies and contradictions. He might be fantastic, but the trailer to the movie sure isn’t.

So I finally saw Avatar.

Seeing the movie started as an idea somewhere the previous week. We went to the cinema to find out that all the shows were sold out. Crap. With our lesson learned, the second time we bought the tickets online. We went to the cinema 1 hour before the movie started to catch better seats. Yeah… if you want to experience a movie as popular as this from decent seats (not the best seats) you have to do that. So, there were already 20-30 people waiting when we got there. This didn’t prevent us to stay in a neatly formed lined for another 45 minutes before we were given access to the auditorium. We got the decent seats that we wanted and felt the tension building as the movie was about to start.

The movie started. Roughly 3 hours later it ended. To sum up in a word how I felt as I left the cinema: disappointed. It seems to me that the whole purpose for which this movie was made was to boast about the special effects – which weren’t that special as rumored but still visually impressive. Apart from that the movie is a big, compact pile of crap. The storyline is simple. very very simple. Simple in the retarded kind of way. With that and the fact that the film is 3 hours long there is lots of space to fill in with the visually stunning details of the big blue cat people and their world. For f… sake. I may not be the best movie critic around the block, but I know that you cannot do that. You cannot fill a quarter of the movie with the cat people flying on their birds. And with all that filler space, they still didn’t manage to correctly expose the evolution of the main character. This is not a movie, it’s a lame excuse to play with Computer Generated Graphics and sucker people into giving you money to see it.

Either you watch the uber movie or this clip from South Park, the story is basically the same. The South Park clip is 2:53 minutes long. oh yeah… epic.

That being said I will stick with my choice for best movie of 2009: District 9

Every once in a while to theaters near comes a movie that just blow you away. District 9 is such a movie.

I went to see the movie out of curiosity. Saw the trailers before, didn’t except much except some random violent acts between human and aliens in a fight for supremacy. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Don’t get me wrong, the violence is there. Plenty of it. Explicit. But that’s not the point of the movie.

The style in which the movie is shot (documentary aka viral) is brilliant. The visual effects are impressing. The way the emotional part is plugged in into the storyline is also very good. This is how a good SciFi movie should look.

IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1136608/

Movie web page: D-9.com

Conclusion: Probably one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. If you have the chance go and see it.

So, I went to see Brüno, the new crap movie starring the one, the only Sacha Baron Cohen. You know him as the star of Borat or Ali G. Whatever.

The movie is a so called comedy. Apart from effectively thrashing gays, Afro-Americans, people in fashion business, German/Austrian people and Jewish people (to name the major categories here), the movie is lame. Poor humor, lots of explicit content for a poor excuse of a comedy.
Now, let’s get to the interesting part: the cinema was full (yes, I payed to see this piece of crap inspiring, life changing movie) with a pretty good distribution among age groups. From teens that barely has 17(minimum for an R rated movie) to grandma’s and grandpa’s curious about this new hit movie everyone is raving about.

What amazed me is that these people were actually enjoying this movie. They were enjoying the poor humor and the extremely impolitically correct jokes this nut brilliant man (SachaB Cohen, if there are any doubts) was making. We’re not talking about a hint here. We are talking about explicitly saying things that would comfortably land you in a nice jail cell if you said them in public. Racial slurs, insulting the African-American comunity several time, jokes one of the most terrible man in history, Hitler, as being the greatest austrian most important person of all times (who would dare to say that?), everything you could imagine and beyond. It’s all there.

And what did the audience do? They laughed. Hard. And laughed some more.

This, in my opinion, show just how impolitically correct people really are. Shows just how hypocrite people can be. It also shows to what great lenghts some people will go, just for entertaiment. Sad, sad truth.

See trailer here: http://www.thebrunomovie.com/bruno-movie-trailer/

That being said, the movie is better than Ice Age 3, and has some incredible stupid scenes that will make your unable to stop laughing.

However, the phrase (often spelled “publick enemy”) has been used for hundreds of years to refer to pirates, outlaws, and rebels.

After seeing the movie with the same name (Public enemies) we find out a striking fact:

Late in the afternoon of Saturday, July 21, 1934, the madam of a brothel in Gary, Indiana, contacted one of the police officers with information. This woman called herself Anna Sage, however, her real name was Ana Cumpanas, and she had entered the United States from her native Rumania in 1914.

So there you have it: Romanians fighting crime, side by side with the newborn FBI, during the Great Recession (if we don’t count the current recesion, that is)

The movie isn’t bad, but that doesn’t make it a good movie. Just the usual “bang-bang”, “we’re gonna get you”, “look how cool I am robbing banks” kind of movie. Still waaaay better than Ice Age 3, who totally sucked.

Just finished watching the movie: Off the Grid: Life On The Mesa
It’s a movie that want’s to be about what the real American Dream is about, but ends up [at least in my case] to be just very disturbing.

Short movie description:

Twenty-Five miles from town, a million miles from mainstream society, a loose-knit community of eco-pioneers, teenage runaways, war veterans and drop-outs, live on the fringe and off the grid, struggling to survive with little food, less water and no electricity, as they cling to their unique vision of the American dream…

Longer description: http://techyum.com/2007/09/off_the_grid_live_on_the_mesa.html

You can watch the movie online at SnagFilms: http://www.snagfilms.com/films/title/off_the_grid_life_on_the_mesa/

IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0920467/

Now that we’ve got the formalities out of the way let’s see what I’ve got from it:

I see it a movie about people with mental illness or extreme misfits who are totally alienated from society. Although they are misfits/mentally ill they still have a high degree of patriotism. To top that the way that think and act is not very different from your regular John Doe. C’mon: you are against the system but you are still ‘brainwashed’ by what it has taught you? That’s just plain wrong.

You’re proud that you can blow up things and smoke weed all you want. But apart from that, what else do you do?

The most sad part was that some of these people choose to raise their children / have children. I agree that once you have 18+ years you’re free to do whatever you want [and pay the price for that] but to destroy innocent lives, that’s just wrong.

The location:

The movie is very vague about the location where it is shot. To say New Mexico, doesn’t mean anything. Maybe they are afraid they will have a wave of hippies free thinkers come their way and ruin what they’ve built with so much work weed.

I myself was a little curious about the location, so I did a little “research” and came up with this:

The area defined may be that west of Taos, NM, generally that west of the Rio Grande river to US 285, Tres Piedras, NM to the north to Carson, NM to the south.

Within that general area there are specific spots, such as the Greater World Earthship community just east of US 64 shortly after crossing the Rio Grande river. Also the alternative community of Tres Orejas, NM, which is south of there.

There is quite a spectrum from multi-million dollar Earthship houses with every modern convenience, to those entirely owner built, over time as funds were available, and modest by most any standard. Water is one of the limiting factors and due the very deep ground water levels in many areas many residents do rely on roof top collection and cisterns for all their water needs. Solar is very practical in this region; some residents have the means to install solar systems capable of generating all the electricity they could ever want, others make do with one small solar panel and a car battery, and not much more than a table lamp, until they can afford more equipment.

Splendid or not, distinctly different from common American suburbia.”

Google Maps map is here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&sll=36.499908,-105.810184&sspn=0.051126,0.11158&ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=36.458845,-105.615005&spn=0.409221,0.892639&z=11 (read instructions above and start peeking at the map between US285 and US64)

And some “nice” pictures (probably not of the “community” I saw in the movie, but close enough):

You probably know the Prison Break TV Series. One guy is going to prison to save his brother who is facing the death penalty… yada yada yada. They should have stopped after the first season. Maybe just because the show is too popular, they have to keep going on and on with all kind of impredictable scenarios and situation turns. That’s just lame.

I admit that from the producer’s point of view it’s hard to stop when a show is popular but I think they should have chosen another path to keep it going. They could have done the whole prison escape thing again (actually they did in season 3, but never mind that) changing one main thing about the movie.

For example, Michael Scofield could be fat. Don’t laugh! Think about it. He would have had more room to tatoo itself. It would have been harder, if not impossible, to charm Sara. He would have had troubles crawling through all the nasty places it crawled and all the inmates would have tried to get him in the sack due to his man boobs. It would have been totally different and only some elements could link this show to the first season. And it would have been way more interesting.

Another twist is that Lincoln could have been the actual killer. And they are actually working on framing someone else instead of him. Or Sara could have been f*in ugly.

The posibilities are endless as long as there is a prison involved at some point.

Just end the show already and let everyone focus on more important TV series. Muhahaha

And it was a loud laught… mwuhaha.

My opinion is that the name of the main character was chosen for this joke only.

2) From Confessions of a Shopaholic [title says it all]

Besides that movie is the perfect story as you can make it in life just because you’re special. You and everyone else.
